Capital Punishment
Capital punishment is the taking of one's life for a major crime that he/she had done. I feel that capital punishment is a form of punishment that is too cruel and it should not be carried out unless it is a very wrong crime is commited AND the criminal does not repent over it.
No one in this world is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and it is only whether it is major or minor. Those whose wrongdoings are minor usually get away with it while those who commit grave crimes are usually caught and punished. Many who get arrested realise their mistake and turns over a new leaf. However, if capital punishment is practiced in the country, the person who regrets what he/she had done may not have a second chance.
Secondly, some people might have been wrongly accused of their crimes. If an innocent person is executed, it is not possible to compensate them or their family. Who should pay for it and how? In the Green Mile, John Coffrey was wrongly executed for something he had not done.
Another point is that capital punishment is very gruesome and not a "civillised" way to punish criminals. The pain is so cruciating, leaving the criminal to struggle for long before dying. Do the criminals deserves this for a moment off wrongdoing? Is it right to take one's life for the taking of another's life?
Many might say capital punishment is a way to reduce crime rate in a country. It might be true in a way or another but there are many countries in which the crime rate has decreased due to socio-economic developments instead of capital punishment.
Therefore, I am against capital punishment and I believe it should be abolished as i feel it is not right to take someone's life and everyone should be given a chance to repent.
